Amami Island
Weather
Amami Oshima Island has that laid-back subtropical feel, like the weather’s always in holiday mode. The yearly temperature hangs around 21°C (70°F), so it's never too hot or too cold. But when it rains, it pours – with more than 3,000 millimeters (about 118 inches) of rain every year! Don't forget to keep an eye out for typhoons from June to September, as they can bring strong winds and heavy rain. That’s why everything is so green and lively.
SPRING
The weather varies widely. Wear light long sleeves that you can easily remove. Mornings and evenings can feel a bit chilly. In April and May, it warms up, and you'll probably be comfortable in short sleeves most days. Don't forget to bring rain gear as well.
